Simon Fox is a very peculiar fox: he lives alone in Elmwood Foxhall on the edge of an enchanted wood, wears a scarlet waistcoat & a top hat, & visits with his friends Edgar Owl, Alexander Raven, Chester Marmot, Cynthia Hedgehog, & Freddie Stoat on Arthur Bear's veranda, discussing the weather & whether or not the elusive "human" is real. Penelope the girl lives with her father in a croft on the downs far from other people. When the fox & the girl discover each other one day quite by accident, they each become the friend the other seeks, & the rest of the animals become the family the little girl has never had. In a forest full of magic, they explore their world together and learn that love, loyalty, & courage know no bounds.

Inspired by two small children who lived with the author briefly in his home on Big Torch Key, Florida, "Simon Fox" has its roots deep in the author's childhood, where his young mind was nourished on English literature, his mother's uncanny ability to create magic & wonderment, & the forests, streams, & wild places of New York State's Catskill Mountains that captured his curiosity & imagination.
